On Oct. 5, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo invested 11 new Knights and Dames into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Lieutenancy Canada – Toronto.

Cardinal Leo serves as the Grand Prior of the Toronto Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. This ancient Catholic order of chivalry, under the protection of the Holy See, traces its origins to the First Crusade. Its principal mission is to support and sustain Christians and Christian institutions in the Holy Land, a commitment carried out through prayer, financial assistance, educational initiatives and humanitarian aid.

The 2025 Mass and Investiture took place at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica in Toronto where, in addition to those invested, 18 Knights and Dames were promoted in rank.

His Excellency Bishop Wayne Lobsinger, Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton — invested into the Order in 2024 — delivered a profound and inspiring homily. He articulated the true significance of investiture, emphasizing that it is neither a personal honor nor an entrance into a privileged association, but rather a solemn vocation to prayerful service and charitable action. Drawing upon the Prayer of the Order, Bishop Lobsinger reflected on the call for members to be “sincere ambassadors of peace and love among our brothers and sisters, and especially among all those who think they do not believe in You.”
