His Grace, the Most Rev. Francis Leo, Archbishop of Toronto, recently visited St. Paul’s Basilica in downtown Toronto to celebrate Mass for members of the Legacy Society. In his homily. Archbishop Leo spoke about the importance of prayer and the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Following Mass, Archbishop Leo had the opportunity to meet many of the members of the society, and then Fr. Robert O’Brien, Pastor of St. Paul’s provided a short walking tour of the Basilica as well as a presentation on the history, architecture, and the growing community of the church.

The archbishop also traveled to the Western Region of the archdiocese to visit with students of the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Catholic Chaplaincy. He gave a talk on Mary, our model of discipleship, to the students gathered at St. Ignatious of Loyola parish which is located near the university campus.

In his talk, Archbishop Leo highlighted the importance for disciples to foster a relationship of intimacy with Jesus and to be missionary as Mary did both these things. He provided questions for the students to reflect on in their small groups and took time to field some questions from students.

“It was a very special night for the UTM Catholic Chaplaincy to be able to host His Grace,” said Lisa Caballero, Director of Campus Ministry.

“His talk was edifying to our community and we are so grateful for how he really took his time to meet and talk with all the students that wanted to chat with him. It is evident from his time with us that he really cares about the young people in the Archdiocese of Toronto.”

The archbishop blessed rosaries for the students before joining them for some pizza and fellowship.
